Feeling High

I have begun to receive feedback on Rain In The Afternoon, and it has been really good. Yesterday I interviewed at the newspaper, and that gave me a real lift. Some feedback about my blog has confirmed what many of my teachers know, and God knows, I do. I don't spell well. Let me apologize.

Tomorrow the Hawks meet the Sharks. "Do you know the way to San Jose?"

Son Mike writes there for the San Jose Mercury. We have not discussed this encounter.
The Sharks smell blood in the water. The Hawks are cool and love the job. I'm a Hawks fan, but I've got to bet on the hungry Sharks for this one.

  1. Dad, I struggled with the Sharks vs. Hawks showdown. I thought about how my first NHL game was at the old Chicago Stadium.
It was quite an adventure. I was a freshman at Loyola and went to the game with some classmates, including a senior woman that I had a crush on. Turns out, one among our group was her boyfriend, which I figured out eventually. We stopped at a small liquor store on Madison -- or near Madison -- to buy some beer to sneak into the barn and I was surprised to see everything of value, the booze, the clerk etc., behind bullet-proof glass. The suburban kid grows up.
It's hard to remember a time you could sneak anything into any public place, but it worked that night.
And I remembered how I once got Stan Makita's autograph at the Elmhurst YMCA.
I remember the Hawks being on Channel 9 on Saturday nights -- and of course I loved Saturday nights.
But in the end, I have to pull for the Sharks. The formation of the team and it's ups and downs have done so much for San Jose -- a big city that doesn't feel like one, and is trying so hard for some sort of identity.
It should be a good series, if the first game is any indication.
